Purlins are large horizontal beam or bars that used for structural support of large structures. It is supported by building walls or rafters. Mainly it is used for metal building structures. In some situation, it is used for wooden building system too. A roof purlin is used in such cases. It supports the load of the roof. There exist different types of purlins based on size, shape, and material. 

The application also varies with shape and size. Purlins are very important for roof structure.

  • Z Purlins

Steel purlins

Steel purlins are the perfect example of conventional wooden purlins. They are light in weight and simple structures to support the entire roofing system. Steel purlins are manufactured with the material called cold-formed steel, which is less expensive than the hot-formed steel. It is simple to manage and deals with.  

C ShapedPurlins

As the names indicate the shape of the purlin is exactly like the alphabet C. It is mainly used for wall and floor support. 

Z Shaped purlins

This purlin structure and shape is stronger than the C shaped one. The application is on the rea of joints and overlap. It acts between roofing sheets and joints and provides support.
